2023 Oscar predictions because why the fuck not

I largely loathe the Academy Awards. They are a largely brainless and vainglorious exercise in corporate PR, based around the idea that there can be an objective ‘best’ when it comes to art.

The list of snubs and mistakes could fill a phonebook and I have severe reservations of anyone who puts a significant weight on the golden statuettes.

However, I am a slave to movies and therefore, for the sake of posterity, I am going to list who I think will take home an Oscar on Sunday night (and who should win).

I lack the expertise to bogged down in technical awards so I will mostly handle the heavy hitters and if I don’t feel I have watched enough relevant movies (Best Documentary Feature), I’ll keep my trap shut.

And if it’s too much to scroll through, I’ll say this for a tl;dr: Everything Everywhere All at Once will largely clean up, All Quiet will do okay and Top Gun/Avatar will share technical awards.

Best Cinematography:

Should win: Chayse Irvin for Blonde (not nominated)

Will win: James Friend for All Quiet on the Western Front

Should win: Marcel the Shell with Shoes on

Will win: Turning Red
