There’s a new blu-ray film label in town, ready to tempt physical media collectors away from their hard-earned cash.

Radiance announced their full launch slate yesterday and started taking pre-orders.

Radiance’s website is live — and taking pre-orders

And if any of the below titles interest you, you better not hang around as they’re limited to 2,000 copies with only a chance of them getting re-published. As explained in the website’s FAQ:

As we mostly focus on more niche and challenging films, market conditions make it difficult to keep films, and therefore stocks, in print. Select titles will be re-published upon sell out in a standard edition (in a standard case, with a standard sleeve, without a booklet) though this won’t be guaranteed for all titles as we may have limited rights, or a slower selling release may have a future in digital download form only.

Radiance is the brainchild of Fran Simeoni who was the director of content at Arrow from 2010 to 2022.

Fran’s departure from Arrow was made public in May 2022 via hisTwitter thread where he said, among other things:

“Arrow will continue to release amazing films but hope you’ll check in on my future endeavours @filmsradiance where I’ll be focused on BD releases of more favourites and discoveries, with a slightly different bent to Arrow.”

There are 10 films to kick off the label which you can pre-order here:

  • A Woman Kills by Jean-Denis Bonan
  • Big Time Gambling Boss by Kosaku Yamashita
  • Fill ‘er up with Super by Alain Cavalier
  • Miami Blues by George Armitage
  • Red Sun by Rudolf Thorne
  • She Dies Tomorrow by Amy Seimetz
  • The Man on the Roof by Bo Widerberg
  • The Sunday Woman by Luigi Comencini
  • The Working Class Goes to Heaven by Elio Petri
  • Welcome to the Doll House by Todd Solondz

It’s a varied and exciting start with films from 1968 to 2020.

This author is probably going to pre-order The Working Class Goes to Heaven, A Woman Kills and Fill ‘er up with Super. And maybe The Sunday Woman.

Welcome to the club Radiance, my wallet hates you already.
